An OLEV grant is a government initiative for electric cars provided by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV). The grant is also known as Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS). It provides 75% off the cost of buying & installing a home EV chargepoint upto a maximum value of £500. It is available for most electric and plug-in hybrid cars. You can claim one EV chargepoint per eligible vehicle and up to two charging points per household.

  • You must have off-street parking so your car will be either in a garage or on your drive

  • The date of installation must not be more than 4 months ahead of the date of delivery or date the customer becomes the registered driver of the electric vehicle.

  • You must select a home chargepoint made by an OLEV approved manufacturer

What Proof of Ownership do I need ?

You will need to show OLEV that you own or are the main driver of an EVHS eligible vehicle and you do this by sending them the relevant documents. Below shows what information may be needed depending on how you own the vehicle:

  • Outright Owner - Copy of V5C (Pages 1 & 2) or proof of order

  • Personal Lease - Full lease agreement

  • Company car driver - Letter from employer

  • Salary Sacrifice - Letter from employer or vehicle provider

How do I apply for the OLEV Grant?

To claim £500 off the cost of your charging point,  you will need to contact an installer who has been approved by OLEV.  Your charging requirements will depend on the vehicle you wish to charge and the location of the chargepoint installation at your property. We advise you to discuss your needs with a registered installer so they can help you choose the right chargepoint for your circumstances.
